Meet breathes life into Ring Road project.

Mayor V.V. Rajan Chellappa recently said the Corporation would take up the Uthangudi-Samayanallur stretch of the second phase of Ring Road project by allocating funds from its own sources and financial support from the State government.

'If the highways department do not come forward to take up the works, the corporation will implement the project on its own. I will discuss the matter with Corporation Commissioner C. Kathiravan and maybe we can pass a resolution regarding this matter in the next council meeting,' he said.

The Mayor was replying to a question raised by zone chairman K. Rajapandian over delay in implementation of the project that would ease traffic congestion in the city.

To another query from ward 90 councillor K. Bose about toll collection on Ring Road, Mr. Chellappa said it had increased to Rs.5 lakh per day.

'Earlier it used to be in the range of around Rs.3.5 lakh from the five tollgates. Because of streamlining of operations, the collection has gone up,' Mr. Chellappa added.
