L&T Secures Major ₹5,000 Crore Contract for Dubai Airport Project.

L&T Secures Major ₹5,000 Crore Contract for Dubai Airport Project.

Infrastructure major Larsen & Toubro (L&T) recently said its transportation infrastructure business, in consortium with Japan’s Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI), has secured a large order worth between ₹2,500 crore and ₹5,000 crore for Dubai’s Al Maktoum International Airport.

The consortium will design and build the automated people mover (APM) system for Phase 1 of the airport, L&T said in a regulatory filing.

The project is being developed by Dubai Aviation City Corporation and implemented through Dubai Aviation Engineering Projects as part of the airport’s planned multi-phase expansion.

Once fully developed, Al Maktoum International Airport is expected to become the world’s largest airport, with an annual capacity of 260 million passengers and 12 million tonnes of freight.

Under the turnkey design-and-build contract, the MHI-L&T consortium will be responsible for the complete delivery of the integrated APM system, including design, construction, supply, testing, commissioning and operational readiness.

L&T’s scope includes the design, procurement, delivery and integration of guideways, DC traction substations, power distribution systems, signalling and telecommunications, onboard vehicle communications, platform screen doors and depot equipment.

Ramkumar S, Executive Vice-President and Head of Transportation Infrastructure at L&T, said the project demonstrated the company’s capabilities in delivering large and complex integrated APM rail systems.

He said the combination of MHI’s APM systems expertise and L&T’s integrated systems experience, supported by its engineering design centre, would enable the consortium to execute the project with a focus on safety and quality.
