The Karnataka State Cabinet has cleared a proposal to set up a new manufacturing facility of Karnataka Soaps and Detergents Limited (KSDL) in Vijayapura at a cost of ₹227.91 crore, as the state-run company looks to scale up production and expand its export presence.\
The upcoming unit will be established on 50 acres in the Ittangihal Industrial Area. The project is expected to drive industrial growth, generate employment, and strengthen KSDL’s footprint in northern Karnataka and adjoining markets.
Large and Medium Industries Minister MB Patil said KSDL currently manufactures 94 products, includithe well-known Mysuru Sandal Soap, which continues to see strong demand in states such as Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Maharashtra.
KSDL reported a turnover of ₹2,016 crore and a net profit of ₹507 crore in the last financial year, with total production reaching 47,494 tonnes. The new facility is part of its strategy to meet growing demand and tap international markets.
Of the total project cost, ₹30 crore has been allocated for land acquisition, ₹77.88 crore for construction, ₹24 crore for infrastructure, and ₹70.80 crore for machinery. Additional provisions include ₹8.63 crore each for tender premium and contingencies, along with ₹7.97 crore for other expenses. The land has been priced at ₹59.30 lakh per acre, according to the minister.
