Jupiter Wagons Subsidiary to Invest ₹2,500 Crore in New Odisha Plant.
Mobility solutions provider Jupiter Wagons announced recently that its subsidiary, Jupiter Tatravagonka Railwheel Factory, is planning to establish a new plant in Odisha with an investment of ₹2,500 crore. The facility will focus on producing forged wheelsets, significantly boosting the company's annual production capacity from 20,000 to 100,000 wheelsets.
The new plant will serve both domestic and international markets, with approximately 50% of the production dedicated to exports, primarily to European partners like Tatravagonka A.S. The expansion supports the “Make in India” initiative, aimed at enhancing India’s manufacturing capabilities and strengthening its position in the global supply chain.
Vivek Lohia, Managing Director of Jupiter Wagons, expressed excitement about the transformation of the subsidiary, stating, “The investment in a state-of-the-art facility positions us for greater growth and efficiency.” He emphasized the company’s commitment to innovation and excellence in delivering world-class rail infrastructure products.
Jupiter Wagons, a part of the Kolkata-based Jupiter Group, acquired Bonatrans India, Europe’s premier wheelset producer, in the previous fiscal year. The acquisition made Jupiter Wagons the first rolling stock manufacturer in India to own a wheel plant, aiming to reduce import dependencies and enhance internal production capabilities.
The company, a leading player in India’s railway wagon manufacturing industry, has diversified into braking systems, wheelsets, and commercial vehicle components, continuing its journey toward a more sustainable and globally competitive future for the rail sector.
