NALCO Signs Technology Agreement with Emirates Global Aluminium for 0.5 MTPA Smelter Expansion in Odisha
Bhubaneswar, Odisha: National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO) has signed a technology licensing agreement with Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) for its proposed 0.5 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) brownfield aluminium smelter expansion at Anugul, Odisha.
The agreement, signed in Dubai on 7 September 2026, will facilitate the deployment of EGA's advanced DX+ Ultra aluminium smelting technology. EGA will provide technology licensing, engineering designs, technical know-how and implementation support during construction and commissioning.
The expansion will increase NALCO's existing aluminium production capacity of approximately 0.46 MTPA to nearly 1 MTPA, strengthening its position in India's aluminium industry.
The DX+ Ultra technology is designed to improve smelting efficiency, energy performance and operational competitiveness while optimising production costs.
First aluminium production from the expanded facility is targeted by the end of 2030. The technology agreement represents a significant milestone in advancing the project towards execution and supporting India's growing demand for aluminium.
