"INOX Air Products and Asahi India Glass Sign MoU for Green Hydrogen Partnership"
INOX Air Products, a leading manufacturer of industrial and medical gases, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Asahi India Glass Limited (AIS) to supply green hydrogen to AIS's upcoming float glass facility in Soniyana, Chittorgarh, Rajasthan. The 20-year offtake agreement marks India's first-ever green hydrogen plant for the float glass industry.
According to the statement from INOX Air Products, the new plant will generate up to 190 tonnes of green hydrogen annually through electrolysis, with solar energy as its primary power source. The commissioning of the plant is scheduled for July 2024. During the initial phase, AIS will receive 95 tonnes per annum (TPA) of green hydrogen for use in its float glass manufacturing process.
To support the generation of green hydrogen, AIS plans to invest in a solar power plant that will supply renewable energy to the hydrogen plant. This innovative move underscores the commitment of both companies to sustainability and eco-friendly industrial practices.
AIS is building a greenfield project in Chittorgarh to produce high-quality float glass designed for automotive and architectural applications, utilizing cutting-edge technology. The green hydrogen supplied by INOX Air Products will play a crucial role in reducing the carbon footprint of the manufacturing process, contributing to a more sustainable future for the glass industry in India.
This collaboration not only represents a significant step towards cleaner industrial processes but also reflects India's broader efforts to embrace renewable energy sources and reduce reliance on fossil fuels.
