Infosys says it will begin building Mohali facility soon.

Infosys recently assured the Punjab government that it will start construction of its 25,000-seat Mohali facility within a month, and complete the first stage of the project in 18 months.

Infosys Executive Vice-President Ramadas Kamath gave the commitment to Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab Sukhbir Badal during an interaction held as part of the build-up to the ‘Invest Punjab’ summit being held in Mohali in October.

Kamath said the new facility at Mohali will be a win-win situation for both the company and the State. “We have more than 2,500 employees of Punjabi origin who are keen to shift to Mohali,” he said, adding once the facility becomes operational, it will give a boost to the local economy.

Besides Infosys, Badal also held business meetings with other industrial houses in the city. Transportation major Volvo has assured Punjab that it was keen to enter into a PPP for the Bus Rapid Transport System (BRTS) in Amritsar besides considering setting up a manufacturing facility for Volvo cars in Punjab.

Volvo India Managing Director Kamal Bali and Volvo Buses Managing Director VRV Sriprasad, during their interaction with Badal and his team, said there was a huge scope for co-operation in city bus and BRTS.

Sriprasad said Volvo was the only company which was manufacturing BRTS buses, following which Badal said Punjab was ready for a joint venture with the company for the BRTS project.

Bali said Volvo was seriously considering Punjab as a destination for setting up a car manufacturing plant and will send a team to make an on-ground assessment.
