Gujarat to Invest ₹190 Crore in Semiconductor Training Hub at IIT Gandhinagar.

The Gujarat government will establish a ₹190-crore semiconductor research and training centre at IIT Gandhinagar to build a skilled workforce for the country's fast-growing semiconductor manufacturing sector.

The facility, named SAMARTH (Silicon and Advanced Semiconductor Manufacturing Research and Training Hub), will train engineering students, faculty members, technicians and industry professionals, with the aim of creating a steady pipeline of "fab-ready" engineers.

The centre will be jointly funded by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), the Gujarat government's Department of Science and Technology, and IIT Gandhinagar. It will focus on semiconductor research, workforce development and industry-oriented training.

According to an official release issued by the Gujarat government on Friday, IIT Gandhinagar has begun procuring advanced equipment and appointing consultants for the construction of the facility.

Over the next five years, SAMARTH aims to train nearly 10,000 people, including 5,600 undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD students, 1,500 technicians, 1,000 participants through certificate programmes, 230 faculty members and 230 industry professionals. More than 2,700 students are also expected to take part in summer schools and short-duration exposure programmes, the release said.
