Eveready Launches Alkaline Battery Production in Jammu, Aims for 25% Market Share.

Eveready Industries India has commissioned India’s first alkaline battery manufacturing facility in Jammu, marking a significant step in localising production in the fast-growing segment. The company now aims to raise its market share in the domestic alkaline battery market to about 25 per cent by value over the next three years, up from around 16 per cent currently.

The greenfield plant, set up with an investment of roughly ₹200 crore, has an annual peak production capacity of nearly 360 million alkaline batteries. With this commissioning, the Kolkata-based firm becomes the only domestic manufacturer in the alkaline battery category, a move expected to substantially reduce its dependence on imports.

Speaking on the development, Chief Executive Officer Anirban Banerjee said the company plans to completely eliminate imports of finished alkaline battery products. However, he noted that some raw materials will continue to be sourced from overseas due to limited domestic availability.
