Delhi Metro Set for 97 km Expansion; CM Rekha Gupta to Unveil Phase V(b) Plan.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta is set to unveil Phase V(b) of the Delhi Metro, which will add 97 km of new lines across seven corridors and 65 stations, expanding rapid transit into the city’s outer areas, according to a report by The Times of India.

The new lines will connect key areas, including Central Secretariat to Kishangarh, Najafgarh to Nangloi, and Samaypur Badli to Narela, bringing far northern localities onto the Metro network. Other corridors include Kirti Nagar-Palam, Jor Bagh-Mithapur, Shastri Park-Mayur Vihar Phase III, and Keshavpuram-Rohini Sector 34, enhancing connectivity across West, South, and East Delhi.

The project, currently in the planning stage, aims to improve last-mile connectivity and reduce travel time in areas such as Najafgarh, Narela, Badarpur, Kondli, Geeta Colony, and Gandhi Nagar market.

Describing the plan as “ambitious,” CM Gupta said the corridors will link densely populated neighborhoods, offering commuters faster, safer, and more convenient travel. The total estimated cost is ₹48,204.56 crore, with the first six corridors accounting for ₹43,335 crore and the seventh corridor at ₹4,869.56 crore.

The Dhansa Bus Stand–Nangloi corridor will be the first priority, spanning 11.9 km fully elevated with nine stations connecting Najafgarh and nearby areas. Interchanges will be available at Nangloi (Green Line) and Dhansa Bus Stand (Grey Line).

The Central Secretariat–Kishangarh corridor will cover 15.9 km, mostly underground, with 10 stations linking important locations such as New Moti Bagh GPRA colonies, RK Puram Sectors 1 & 7, JNU, and the Prime Ministers’ Museum. Interchanges will include Central Secretariat (Violet, Yellow, Magenta lines), Moti Bagh (Pink Line), RK Puram (Magenta Line), and Kishangarh (Golden Line).

The Samaypur Badli–Narela corridor, 12.9 km fully elevated, will feature eight stations, while the Kirti Nagar–Palam line of 9.9 km will include 8.4 km underground and 1.6 km elevated with six stations.

The Jor Bagh–Mithapur corridor will be a 17 km independent line with 12 stations, including seven underground, and interchanges at key points like Jor Bagh, Lajpat Nagar, NSIC Okhla, Jasola Apollo, and Madanpur Khadar. The Shastri Park–Mayur Vihar Phase III corridor will span 13.2 km with eight stations, mostly underground, linking Shastri Park, Nirman Vihar, and Trilokpuri. The Keshavpuram–Rohini Sector 34 corridor will be 16.3 km fully elevated with 12 stations and interchanges at Keshavpuram, North Pitampura, and Rohini Sector 34.

CM Gupta said four corridors will be treated as priority projects, targeted for completion by 2029, with the remaining three developed in phased stages. She has instructed Delhi Metro Rail Corporation to submit revised detailed project reports for both priority and non-priority corridors.

The expansion is expected to strengthen Delhi’s rapid transit network, enhance last-mile connectivity, and promote sustainable urban development.
