Defence Ministry Inks Rs. 2,269 Cr Deal with Bharat Electronics Limited
The Defence Ministry has finalized a contract worth Rs 2,269 crore with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), a state-run entity, for the procurement of 11 Shakti warfare systems and associated equipment, according to an official statement.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the ministry confirmed the signing of the contract with BEL for the acquisition of 11 Shakti Electronic Warfare Systems along with associated equipment and accessories for the Indian Navy, under the Buy (Indian- IDDM) category, totaling Rs 2,269.54 crore.
Describing the indigenous nature of the Shakti EW System, the ministry highlighted its capability to accurately intercept electronic emissions and implement countermeasures in dense electromagnetic environments.
The Shakti EW System is slated for installation onboard capital warships of the Indian Navy, enhancing their operational capabilities.
Furthermore, the ministry underscored the socio-economic impact of the project, stating that it would generate employment opportunities equivalent to two and a half lakh man-days over four years, with the participation of more than 155 industry partners, including Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). This initiative aligns with the vision of 'Atmanirbhar Bharat,' promoting self-reliance and indigenous manufacturing capabilities.
