Chennai Metro Extension from Lighthouse to High Court to Get Detailed Project Reports.

Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has taken a significant step toward expanding its network by awarding consultancy contracts for the preparation of Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for two key extensions. The contracts, announced on Monday, are for the extension of Corridor 4 from Lighthouse to High Court and for a new Tambaram–Guindy–Velachery corridor.

Systra MVA Consulting India Pvt Ltd has been appointed as the consultant for both projects. The company will be paid ₹38,20,000 for the Lighthouse to High Court extension and ₹96,19,000 for the Tambaram corridor. The studies are expected to be completed within 120 days.

The Lighthouse to High Court extension is a 7-kilometer route designed to improve metro connectivity along Marina Beach and provide better access to the Secretariat. According to a CMRL release, this corridor will be particularly beneficial for both daily commuters and tourists, enhancing urban mobility.

The proposed Tambaram–Guindy–Velachery corridor, approximately 21 kilometers long, aims to better integrate the suburbs of Tambaram, Medavakkam, Pallikaranai, and Velachery with the existing Corridor 1 at Guindy Metro station. This new line is expected to facilitate multi-modal integration at major points like Tambaram, Medavakkam, Velachery, and Guindy, creating a more seamless travel experience for thousands of residents.
