Ashok Leyland Subsidiary Secures Order from MTC to Supply 500 Electric Buses.

Ashok Leyland's subsidiary, OHM Global Mobility, has secured a major order from Chennai’s Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) to supply 500 electric buses. OHM, which specializes in Mobility-as-a-Service, will manage the operation and maintenance of these buses under a 12-year contract with MTC.

The buses will be provided by Switch Mobility, another Ashok Leyland subsidiary, and will feature the state-of-the-art Switch EiV12 model. Of the 500 buses, 400 will be non-air-conditioned, while 100 will have air conditioning. Each 12-meter ultra-low floor bus can seat 37 passengers and accommodate an additional 24 standing, with a range exceeding 200 kilometers per charge.

Shenu Agarwal, Managing Director and CEO of Ashok Leyland, emphasized the impact of this order, noting that it boosts the company’s total order backlog to over 2,000 electric vehicles.

To ensure smooth operations, charging infrastructure will be installed at six key bus depots across Chennai, including Perumbur, Perumbakam, and KK Nagar. This will support consistent service delivery and minimize downtime for the city’s new electric fleet.
