"Ahmedabad Metro Phase II Trials Set for Completion by March"

The Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) Ltd has announced that the trial run for its 20-kilometer Phase II stretch from Motera to Gandhinagar will kick off in March. The trial run is slated to cover the route between Motera and Sector-I in Gandhinagar via GIFT City.

According to metro officials, the entire stretch up to Mahatma Mandir is expected to be completed by the end of the year.

A statement from GMRC highlighted that train trials are anticipated to commence either in March or April. However, officials emphasized the urgency to initiate the trial run by mid-March due to the impending model code of conduct for the Lok Sabha election. They expressed concerns that once the election dates are announced, conducting the trial run would be challenging.

After the elections, passenger services will initially reach Gandhinagar Sector I, with the rest of the stretch becoming available by year-end.

Officials provided updates on the progress of key infrastructure projects, including the cable-stayed extradosed bridge across the Narmada main canal between Narendra Modi Stadium and Gandhinagar. The bridge, featuring a central span of 145 meters and end spans of 79 meters, is nearing completion. Significant progress has been made on the pylons and the majority of the segments, with the remaining work expected to wrap up soon. Following the completion of the bridge, track laying and the installation of the third rail will be finalized.

Additionally, officials reported that work on the Thaltej to Thaltej Gam stretch is also on track for completion by year-end. Furthermore, plans are in place to open the Sabarmati metro station after the elections.
