Adani Green to Commission 14 GWh Storage Project at Khavda, Gujarat.

Adani Green Energy Ltd (AGEL) plans to commission a 14 gigawatt-hour (GWh) battery energy storage system (BESS) at its Khavda renewable energy park in Gujarat by the end of the current financial year, as part of efforts to curb curtailment and wastage of clean energy amid India’s evolving storage infrastructure.

The company, India’s largest renewable energy producer, has already operationalised 3.37 GWh of BESS capacity at the site and is targeting a massive expansion to 50 GWh over the next five years.

The Khavda project is also home to 30 GW of renewable energy capacity, making it one of the world’s largest integrated clean energy hubs. According to Rajat Seksaria, CEO of Battery Energy Storage and Green Hydrogen at Adani Group, the facility will combine large-scale generation with extensive storage capabilities.

“This is the world’s largest at Khavda where we will have 30 GW of renewable energy at a single location and 14 GWh of battery storage,” Seksaria said.

The expansion comes at a time when energy storage is becoming increasingly critical for grid stability, with India reportedly curtailing around 300 GWh of clean power in the first quarter of 2026 due to inadequate storage infrastructure.

The Khavda development is expected to play a key role in addressing intermittency challenges in renewable energy integration and improving utilisation of generated clean power.
