Union Home Minister Amit Shah recently virtually laid the foundation stone for the ₹700-crore Amul Bengal Dairy Project in Howrah district, saying West Bengal is witnessing a new era of growth under the BJP government in the State.
Addressing the event after performing the Bhoomi Pujan for the project at Sankrail, Shah described the transformation in West Bengal as unprecedented, saying the political change in the State was unlike any seen elsewhere in the country since Independence.
The project, billed as the world's largest curd production plant, will have the capacity to process around 30 lakh litres of milk daily and produce 10 lakh kilograms of curd and other cultured dairy products every day.
According to the government, the project is expected to benefit more than 1.25 lakh milk-producing farmers across West Bengal, including over 30,000 women dairy farmers, by strengthening milk procurement and creating a larger market for dairy produce.
Amul also plans to establish two additional plants in the State to manufacture ice cream as part of its expansion strategy in West Bengal.
