TN Government Approves Metro Extension from Airport to Kilambakkam.

The Tamil Nadu government has granted administrative sanction for initial work on the proposed 15.46-kilometer extension of the Chennai Metro's Phase I. The expansion will connect the Chennai Airport to the Kalaignar Centenary Bus Terminus in Kilambakkam.

The government order stated that an estimated ₹1,964 crore will be sanctioned as subordinate debt to the Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL).

This funding will cover crucial preparatory tasks such as land acquisition and the shifting of existing utilities, a move made in anticipation of the Central government's final approval for the project.
