The Tamil Nadu government is moving forward with plans to establish a new biotech industrial park in Chengalpattu, located approximately 60 km south of Chennai. The state's industrial development arm, the Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO), has issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) to hire a consultant to create a master plan and detailed project report (DPR) for the initiative.
The proposed park aims to be an integrated hub for advanced manufacturing, research, and sector-specific clusters within the life sciences. The tender documents outline a vision for a comprehensive ecosystem, including:
Manufacturing: The park will host facilities for pharmaceuticals, vaccines, biologics, and biosimilars.
Research & Development: It will support both large companies and startups with R&D centers, pilot-scale facilities, and bio-incubation centers.
Infrastructure: The park will offer Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP)-compliant industrial plots, modular manufacturing units, and shared utilities tailored for the biotech industry.
Tamil Nadu already has a strong foundation in the pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors, with a skilled talent pool and robust academic institutions. This new biotech park is a strategic move to attract more investment and position the state as a leading hub for biotechnology manufacturing and innovation.
