Tambaram to get four new parks under AMRUT scheme.
The Tambaram municipality has set aside Rs. 2.14 crore to begin work on four new parks. The Commissioner of Municipal Administration issued administrative sanction for developing parks at Amal Nagar (Rs. 25 lakh), KonKrishna Nagar (Rs.25 lakh), Arul Nagar (Rs. 64 lakh) and Haritha Enclave, CTO Colony, west Tambaram (Rs. 1 crore). Based on the tenders received, work orders would be given, for which, the municipal council has already given its nod, officials said.
The improvement works would be carried out under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT), for which the municipality had submitted proposals to the Tamil Nadu Urban Finance and Infrastructure Development Corporation (TUFIDCO).
“The municipality has already developed 12 parks, including Muthurangam Park in West Tambaram, Gandhi Park and Bharathi Park in East Tambaram; similar facilities would be provided in these four parks as well,” said municipal engineer V. Murugesan.
“Detailed project reports for 2016-17 have been submitted to TUFIDCO for improving parks in Ganesh Nagar, East Tambaram, Indira Nagar, Selaiyur, Anandapuram, East Tambaram, and TNHB, Mullai Nagar, West Tambaram, at cost of Rs. 2.64 crore,” he said.
Work to improve the water quality in tanks is also on the anvil, said municipal chairman M. Karikalan.
“An estimate has been prepared to install 50 GPH Electro Chlorinator equipment, costing Rs. 66.8 lakh, in nine water tanks. The Municipal Council’s approval was also obtained for this scheme,” he said.
Tenders have been called for installing the equipments, Mr. Karikalan added.
