OpenAI is reportedly planning a significant expansion into India with a new data center, a move that would be a key part of its massive, Microsoft-backed "Stargate" AI infrastructure initiative, Bloomberg News reported recently.

According to sources familiar with the matter, the new data center would be a major step forward for OpenAI in Asia. The company has already taken steps to establish a stronger local presence, recently registering as a legal entity in India and beginning to hire a local team.

The new data center would support the rapidly growing user base in India, which is OpenAI’s second-largest market. In a statement last month, the company announced its plans to open its first Indian office in New Delhi later this year.
