RIR Power Electronics Achieves Milestone with India’s First 25 kV Thyristor Switch.

Mumbai-based RIR Power Electronics Ltd recently announced that it has successfully developed India’s first indigenously manufactured 25 kilovolt (kV)–120 kiloampere (kA) capacitor discharge high-voltage thyristor switch, designed for advanced pulse power applications.

The company said the system is built around a 125 mm silicon-controlled rectifier (SCR) capable of blocking voltages of up to 8 kV, marking the first time such a component has been developed in India. To achieve the required high-voltage performance for controlling extremely high current pulses, multiple SCR units have been configured in series.

According to the company, the product has been tested and qualified at its high-voltage laboratory located at its manufacturing facility in Halol, Gujarat.
