Muscat to Perth cable project likely complete by end-2021.

The sub-sea Oman Australia Cable (OAC) project between Muscat and Perth is likely to be finished by December 2021, Australian cable development firm SUB.CO has announced.

In a statement posted to its website, SUB.CO said that the project has now moved to a ‘contract in force’ status and expects final connect in December next year.

“The project delivers a new international sub-sea cable system identified as OAC that will directly connect Muscat to Perth in Australia,” the statement said.

In the statement, SUB.CO founder Bevan Slattery also said that the project has been able “to secure the required manufacturing and marine installation assets” to allow the project to be completed on time.

OAC will ultimately become the only submarine cable that connects Australia with Europe, the Middle East and Africa. It is expected to provide the lowest latency route between the two regions.

“Once deployed, OAC will enable high-capacity, low-latency transmission and open a much-sought route between Australia and EMEA,” said SubCom CEO David Coughlan. “SubCom is very pleased to be moving forward with this project and we are confident in our ability to implement what will be a powerful and reliable system on behalf of SUB.CO.”
