KITCO bids to prepare DPR for bypass project.

KITCO, a technical consultancy organisation established by various commercial banks and the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI), is the lone bidder that has evinced interest in preparing a Detailed Project Report to convert the Kozhikode Bypass into a four-lane carriage way.

Now it is up to the State government to take a final decision on awarding the contract to KITCO as tenders have been invited by the Public Works Department (PWD) at the national level for the second time. The project is to widen the 28.14-km two-lane Kozhikode Bypass with Central aid.

Official sources said a sum of Rs. 800 crore would be required to convert the two-lane road bypass into a four-lane highway. Thus, two more bridges across the Korapuzha and Purakkateri rivers have to be constructed.

Plans are afoot to open the entire stretch of the Kozhikode bypass from Vengalam to Idimuzhikkal in December. Work has almost been completed on the final stretch that included the construction of two bridges at Korappuzha and Purakkateri.

Meanwhile, the National Highway Division of the PWD has decided to begin the process of constructing two flyovers at Ramanattukara and Thondayad on the bypass.

The construction of the flyovers has been envisaged under the District Flagship Infrastructure Project.
