Vizag airport terminal gets commissioned

Visakhapatnam: The new terminal at the Visakhapatnam airport, built at a cost of Rs 95 crore was made operational from the Telugu New Year day on Friday.

The airport terminal was inaugurated on February 21 by the Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy.

After the passage of more than a month, trial runs began at the new terminal on Ugadi day and the full-scale operations will commence from sometime next week, according to airport sources. According to authorities, the old airport building will be used for handling cargo.

The commissioning of the new terminal, along with the night-landing facilities, is expected to make international flights possible from here. It is said that some airlines such as Silk Airways have already evinced interest in operating flights from here.
