Vidyuta Materials to Invest ₹399 Crore in Battery Cathode Material Manufacturing Facility in Uttar Pradesh
Vidyuta Materials Private Limited, a subsidiary of battery recycling and materials company Lohum, has secured government approval for a ₹399 crore investment in Uttar Pradesh to establish a cathode active material manufacturing facility.
The approval was announced on 6 November 2026 under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology's Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS), aimed at strengthening India's domestic electronics and advanced battery supply chains.
The proposed facility will manufacture cathode active materials, a critical component used in lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles, energy storage systems and electronic devices.
The investment represents an important step towards reducing India's dependence on imported battery materials while developing domestic capabilities in advanced energy storage technologies.
The project is expected to generate business opportunities for plant engineering companies, specialised machinery manufacturers, process technology providers, industrial contractors and supporting equipment suppliers.
Vidyuta Materials' proposal is among 12 newly approved ECMS applications involving a combined investment of ₹7,503 crore across seven Indian states.
The facility is expected to contribute to India's evolving battery manufacturing ecosystem and support the localisation of critical materials needed for electric mobility and energy storage applications.
Project Status: ECMS approval announced on 6 November 2026; detailed construction and commissioning timelines have not been disclosed
