Thermal Powertech Corporation India (TPCIL), which owns and operates a coal-fired power plant in Krishnapatnam in Andhra Pradesh's SPSR Nellore district, has successfully commenced full commercial operation with the completion of its second and final 660-megawatt unit.

The $1.5 billion coal-fired power plant, which has a total capacity of 1,320 megawatts, completed its first 660-megawatt unit in February. It is supplying 500 megawatts of power to the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana Power Distribution Companies under a 25-year power purchase agreement.

'With this, the plant is fully operational with gross generation capacity of 1,320 megawatts, helping to meet the increasing power demand in the southern states of India and supporting their economic growth,' Atul Nargund, CEO of TPCIL said in a release issued recently.
