Study on linking Metro with Capital.
Amaravati Metro Rail Corporation Limited (AMRC) Managing Director N. Ramakrishna Reddy recently said a study on the feasibility of linking the Pandit Nehru Bus Station (PNBS)-Nidamanur or PNBS-Penamalur corridor with Amaravati would be done soon.
Giving a power-point presentation on the project at a programme at the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) council hall here, Mr. Reddy said officials from the Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) had requested the corporation to extend the project up to Amaravati. He also sought the cooperation of corporators for the completion of the project by 2019.
'If the project gets delayed, then the cost escalates. Thus, we request corporators to educate people on the advantages of the project,' he said.
The fare will be less than the amount charged by drivers of sharing auto rickshaws in the city, he said, adding that a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the Rs. 6,708-crore Metro Rail had already been prepared.
VMC Commissioner G. Veerapandian, who was also present at the event, said the State government, with the assistance of Centre, had taken up the project to ensure better transport facilities to people in the capital region. He added the corporation would extend necessary support for the construction of Metro rail.
Mayor Koneru Sridhar advised corporators to clear doubts among people on the upcoming project.
AMRC officials later clarified doubts raised by a few corporators.
