Stone laid for solvent production plant.

The foundation stone for a solvent production plant (SPP) was laid on the premises of Heavy Water Plant (HWP) recently.

A.N. Verma, Chairman and Chief Executive, Heavy Water Board (HWB), inaugurated the proceedings. This SPP would be established at a cost of ₹38 crore. Exotic solvents could be produced at this SPP to cater to the needs of Department of Atomic Energy. This project is expected to be completed within 15 months, the Chairman of HWB told reporters.

Next to Talcher in Odisha and Baroda in Gujarat, this SPP would be the third project in India. Multiple solvents could be produced and these solvents could be used for extracting uranium from spent fuel or secondary sources, he said.
