St. Thomas Mount station may open next month.

Though the St. Thomas Mount station has been inaugurated along with the second stretch from Little Mount to Chennai airport, it may be a few weeks before it is open to the public.

This station that falls immediately after the Alandur station is yet to get the mandatory approval from the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS).

According to officials of Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL), this inspection will be conducted on Thursday morning for St. Thomas Mount station and the service loop beyond Alandur. This service loop was a technical facility created for trains to change over, but officials say it may be used to ensure direct travel from Koyambedu to Chennai airport without a transit at Alandur.

“Even if we get the approval soon from CMRS, it may be a few weeks before this station is open to the public. We are hoping to open it before the end of next month,” an official said.

At the St. Thomas Mount station, there is a facility to integrate Metro Rail and Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS). But this may be possible only when the MRTS work is complete.
