Odisha Cabinet Gives Nod to ₹2,000-Crore Deep Sea Fishing Project.

The Odisha Cabinet recently approved a Deep Sea Fishing Mission with an outlay of more than ₹2,000 crore to unlock the State's offshore fisheries potential and develop Odisha into a leading marine export hub.

The mission was cleared at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi.

Describing it as a flagship initiative of the Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Department, Chief Secretary Anu Garg said the programme aims to harness the State's vast offshore fisheries resources while accelerating blue economy-led growth.

"The mission is designed to unlock Odisha's immense offshore fisheries potential and position the State as a leading marine export hub," Garg told reporters after the Cabinet meeting.

The initiative is expected to boost deep sea fishing infrastructure, enhance marine exports and create new livelihood opportunities for fishing communities while strengthening the State's fisheries sector.
