NHAI to Open Majority of Gurgaon–Pataudi–Rewari Highway by Mid-February.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) plans to open most of the Gurgaon–Pataudi–Rewari highway to traffic by mid-February, even as work on key structures continues.

Officials recently said the road will be partially opened “primarily to ease commuter inconvenience on the corridor,” excluding a railway overbridge (RoB) near Pahari village and a few other pending structures. Full completion of the project, minus the RoB, is now targeted for March, while the RoB is expected to be ready by June.

Once operational, the highway is expected to improve connectivity between Gurgaon, southern Haryana, and Rajasthan, while easing congestion on the Delhi–Jaipur Expressway. It will also provide an alternative route to industrial hubs in Manesar, Bilaspur, and Dharuhera, facilitating smoother traffic for commuters and transporters.

The project, estimated to cost ₹900 crore, was initially scheduled for completion in December 2022. The foundation was laid in July 2020 by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, but construction began only in November 2021 with a revised two-year deadline. According to a senior NHAI official, “Apart from a couple of structures, most work is complete. We are trying to open the road for traffic, except the RoB, between January and mid-February.”

Delays at the RoB were caused by late permissions from the railways, pushing its completion to June. Another delay-affected structure is the flyover at the Dwarka Expressway junction, where construction is stalled due to a 400 KV high-tension power transmission line that needs to be shifted.

While most of the main carriageway and associated works are complete, repeated extensions of deadlines have occurred due to approval and utility-shifting issues.
