NALCO to Set Up New Smelter, Captive Power Plant with ₹30,000-Crore Outlay.
State-owned National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO) is planning an investment of around ₹28,000-30,000 crore over the next three to four years to expand its aluminium production capacity, Chairman and Managing Director Brijendra Pratap Singh said recently.
The expansion plan includes setting up a new 0.5 million tonne aluminium smelter along with a 1,000 MW captive power plant.
"We are preparing the Detailed Project Report (DPR) this year. Next year, we plan to complete the tendering process and begin groundwork, likely around August-September 2027," Singh told ANI in an exclusive interview.
He said NALCO aims to complete both projects by 2030 or 2031. The proposed investment is estimated at around ₹17,000 crore for the aluminium smelter and approximately ₹10,000 crore for the captive power plant.
"Overall, the investment will be somewhere around ₹28,000-30,000 crore over the next three to four years," Singh said.
The expansion is part of NALCO's medium- and long-term strategy to increase aluminium production capacity and strengthen its position in the domestic aluminium sector.
