Male to get temporary market place

Male: The construction of a temporary marketplace for the visiting merchants from islands is now under way according to Male’ Municipality. The market is to replace the parking zone in front of the temporary local market.

Male municipality further said that the market being built using GI pipes is now progressing with emplacement of the ground support structure. According to the officials Male Municipality is doing everything possible to expeditiously complete the project and provide opportunity for the people to use the market.

A visiting merchant engaged in selling groceries in the area said that if the market could be built in such a way that would allow them to conveniently conduct their business it would be a remarkable achievement as currently half of their goods perish due to being kept in the sun as they have no other choice.

The business of locally grown veggies is now being conducted in the parking zone in front of the fish market after the old local market had been closed for renovation. Male Municipality has banned this activity and intervened in association with police a number of times but the problem remains unsolved.
