Krishna Phase-III to commence from June.

With works nearing completion, the Rs.1,670 crore Krishna Phase-III project will become fully operational in June, WBoard assured soon.

On completion, Phase-III can provide 90 million gallons per day to the city. The project, however, will become partly operational in April when it starts pumping 45 MLD.

Explaining the status of phase-III works, HMWSSB Director (Operations) G. Rameshwar Rao said a small section of the pipeline to carry untreated water from Alimineti Madhava Reddy Project (AMRP) canal at Akkampally in Nalgonda district to a water treatment plant in Kondandapur will be completed on April 4. Commissioning of a massive water treatment plant, third-of-its-kind in the expansive Kodandapuram water treatment complex, will bring Krishna Phase III works to completion. With a capacity of 90 MGD, the plant will operate 40 rapid sand filters, developed at a cost of Rs. 136 crore.

Since the new plant will not operate at full capacity until June, two existing treatment plants - one each for phase I and II- commissioned in 2004 and 2007 will treat some of the 45 MGD water that HMWSSB will begin supplying in April under phase III.
