Guru Gobind Singh Refinery inaugurated by PM

The 9 mtpa Guru Gobind Singh Refinery was inaugurated in Punjab's Bathinda district on last Saturday.
A joint venture of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) and Mittal Energy Investment Pte Ltd (MEL), Singapore, the project had become fully operational recently. MEL has 49 percent stake in the refinery project.
The refinery would cater to the inland petroleum demand in Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Harynana, Rajasthan and Delhi. It will also help cut down on the cost of transporting products from faraway refineries to Northern India. HPCL, which currently depends on other refiners like Reliance Industries and Essar, will now directly source products from the refinery in Bathinda.
The refinery's capacity would go up to 18 mt in future.
