Foundation laid for ROB in Jolarpet.

Elimination of level crossing (LC) gates will be the top priority of the railways, and reflects its commitment towards the core mission areas of safety, security, speed and service to the people, said Ashok K. Agarwal, General Manager of the Southern Railway.

He was laying the foundation for the Rs. 11- crore road over bridge (ROB) above the railway track recent morning. Later, he inaugurated a subway beneath the railway track at Fakirthakka near Jolarpet.

He said the two events marked a new chapter in improving connectivity between the eastern and western sides of the Jolarpet Town. He expressed his happiness that the state government has been very supportive of the demand of the people of Jolarpet, and that the Jolarpet Municipality had deposited the entire cost of the construction of light vehicle ROB - Rs.10.71 crore - with the Railways. He assured the public that the ROB work will be and completed within 15 months.

The General Manager said the subway has been constructed by the Railways at a cost of Rs.2.45 crores. He requested the Ministers, MPs, MLAs, and the state government to participate in the endeavour of the Railways to provide various passenger amenities such as foot over bridges, ROBs / battery-operated cars for the elderly at stations, and the cleanliness drive under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, construction of toilets at stations and other public amenities through the MPs Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) / public private partnership (PPP) mode and other schemes.
