Flyover: installation of electricity towers begins.

The shifting of electricity towers by AP-Transco for construction of the Kanaka Durga flyover is going on at a brisk pace with erection of one of the five towers at the new regulator of Krishna eastern main canal nearing completion in three to four days. The laying of foundation and curing for the remaining towers has almost been completed.

Shifting of the towers is a part of the re-routing of Kanaka Durga Ghat section of the 132 KV DC line coming from Kondapalli for facilitating construction of the flyover proposed at Indrakeeladri.

The towers are multi-circuit high tensile steel towers replace three existing ones affected by alignment of 2.55 km-long elevated flyover that links Bhavanipuram with Seethammavari Padalu.

The flyover is going to be a part of the six-lane road that will connect NH5 and NH9 and it will have a four-lane road beneath it.

Each tower weighs about 25 tons and reaches a height of about 75 feet, according to official sources.

The tower that will be coming up on the Ghat Road near the entrance Gopuram at Indrakeeladri is the most critical one due to the rocky terrain and elevation.

Officials have exercised utmost caution to ensure that the foundations are laid properly so that they can bear the phenomenal weight of the towers.

The AP-Transco has sourced steel from Visakhapatnam Steel Plant and mobilised specialist workers from Jharkhand, Tamil Nadu and Odisha. AP-Transco MD K. Vijayanand has been informed of the progress and he instructed the officials to not compromise on quality of the project. It was estimated to cost nearly Rs. 9 crore.
