"Expedite road overbridge projects".
The Consumer Protection Council, Tamil Nadu, has urged the government to expedite the road overbridge projects being taken up in the city.
A resolution adopted at its executive committee meeting held here recently said burden of delay in executing projects is ultimately borne by the public. A new multi-level bridge was being constructed near the Railway Junction and the Highways Department has started constructing a road overbridge at Periyar Nagar on Thiruvanaikovil Trunk Road. Motorists have to take a detour owing to these projects leading to waste of fuel and time. The Chief Minister should expedite these projects.
In another resolution, it said the State Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission was headless for the past six months and there were several vacancies in the District Consumer Dispute Redressal Forums causing delay in disposing cases. If the situation continued, consumers would lose faith in this system, which was created for ensuring speedy and affordable justice. The council urged the Chief Minister to pay attention to the problem and fill the vacancies early.
The council regretted that the boycott of courts by lawyers was causing agony to litigants.
Earlier, S.Pushpavanam, secretary of the council, presented a report. C.T.Selvakumar, president of the council, spoke.
