CPT signs pact with Port of Halifax

Chennai: The Chennai Port signed a MoU with the Port of Halifax, Canada, with the intention of cooperating in various fields including exchange of experts, knowledge, and technical cooperation in port management covering operations of specia lised terminals like containers, tourism and trade development between the two countries.

“This is a historic day for us and the signing will be a major initiative for Chennai Port especially in handling of automobiles'' Chennai Port Chairman Mr K.Suresh said after signing the MOU.

Halifax Port CEO and President, Ms Karen Old Field, who claimed that the MoU achieves 'significance,' said it was the first MoU they were inking with a South East Asian country.

She said that a committee from Halifax would visit Chennai Port while Indian delegates would also visit their port on knowledge sharing basis.

Stating that one-third of business were from India out of the 35 per cent generated from South East Asian countries (in Halifax Port), she said, “the strategic advantage of signing of the MoU would be the time and cost''.
