CM to lay stone for Metro Phase-I extension.

Chief Minister Jayalalithaa may lay the foundation stone for the much-awaited phase I extension of Chennai Metro Rail recently.

According to sources, Ms. Jayalalithaa may launch this extension project from Washermanpet to Wimco Nagar through video-conferencing.

“The tunnel boring machine has been installed at the site for launch; but the tunnelling work may not start soon. Currently, the preparatory work is going on and the tunnelling work may begin in about two months,” an official said.

The extension project estimated at Rs. 3,700 crore will cover over 9 km from Washermanpet to Wimco Nagar.

The stretch from Washermanpet to Korukkupet will be underground and the rest will be an elevated corridor till Wimco Nagar.
