CM launches road re-laying project.

Chief Minister Jayalalithaa has launched a massive road relaying project covering the flood-affected parts of the city. The project involves the development of 108.43 km of bus routes and 683.02 km of interior roads at an estimated cost of Rs.643.5 crore by the Chennai Corporation.

The civic body will also start commissioning 400 bus shelters along bus routes at an estimated cost of Rs. 48 crore.

Ms. Jayalalithaa also laid the foundation stone for the project to develop 260 km of stormwater drains along the Adyar and Cooum basins.

The project will cover areas such as Valasaravakkam, Alandur, Ambattur, Saligramam, Porur, Nandambakkam, Ramapuram, Korattur, Nolambur and Maduravoyal.

The Rs. 1093-crore project is funded by the World Bank. Most of the residential areas in added areas along the two rivers will get new drains before next monsoon. The government is planning to get funding for the residential areas in Kovalam basin and Kosasthalaiyar basins shortly.

Ms. Jayalalithaa laid the foundation stone for integrated solid waste management projects in Sriperumbudur at an estimated cost of Rs.4.44 crore. She also launched work on water supply projects in Tiruporur.
