Chennai Emerging as Data Centre Hub; Capacity to Surge to 551 MW by 2030, Predicts ASSOCHAM.

Chennai's data centre market is poised for exponential growth, projected to more than double its capacity to 551 megawatts (MW) by 2030, up from 202 MW in 2025. This represents a robust compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 22 percent, according to a new report released on Monday by ASSOCHAM in collaboration with PwC.

The report, titled ‘Knowledge Paper on Empowering global digital change: Tamil Nadu’s data centre and cloud vision’, highlights that this significant expansion is fueled by Chennai's advantageous geographical location, its well-established infrastructure, and proactive government policies that support the sector's development.

The findings of this insightful report were unveiled by Tamil Nadu's Minister for Information Technology, Palanivel Thiaga Rajan, at the 7th Assocham Smart Data Centres & Cloud Infrastructure Conclave 2025, underscoring the state's commitment to fostering the growth of its digital infrastructure. The report paints a promising picture for Chennai as a rapidly emerging hub in the data centre landscape.
