Cabinet Approves ₹3,689 Crore for Two Hydro Projects in Arunachal Pradesh.

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) recently approved two major hydropower projects in Arunachal Pradesh, with a combined investment of ₹3,689 crore.

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that the CCEA had cleared an investment of ₹1,750 crore for the construction of the 186 MW Tato-I Hydro Electric Project and ₹1,939 crore for the 240 MW Heo Hydro Electric Project in Shi Yomi District. The power generated from these projects will enhance electricity supply in Arunachal Pradesh and contribute to stabilizing the national grid.

The projects will be developed through joint venture companies formed between North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Ltd. (NEEPCO) and the Government of Arunachal Pradesh.

For the Tato-I project, the central government will provide ₹77.37 crore for the construction of roads, bridges, and transmission lines, alongside ₹120.43 crore in Central Financial Assistance for the state's equity share. Similarly, the Heo project will receive ₹127.28 crore for enabling infrastructure and ₹130.43 crore in Central Financial Assistance towards the state's equity share.

Both projects will benefit the state with 12% free power and an additional 1% for the Local Area Development Fund (LADF). Additionally, the region will see significant infrastructure improvements, including hospitals, schools, vocational training institutes, marketplaces, and playgrounds, funded by a dedicated ₹15 crore from the project’s funds. These developments aim to drive socio-economic growth in the area.
