Bharat Forge Secures Defence Order Worth ₹425 Crore for 12 Generators.

The Ministry of Defence recently signed a contract with Bharat Forge Limited for the acquisition of 12 sets of 1.25 MW marine gas turbine generators for the Indian Navy, in a deal valued at approximately ₹425 crore.

According to the Ministry, the generators will have a minimum of 60 per cent indigenous content, marking a significant push towards self-reliance in critical defence technologies.

The contract is expected to enhance maritime capability by strengthening the Indian Navy’s operational readiness through domestic manufacturing and end-to-end life-cycle support for the systems.

Officials said the agreement represents an important step in building indigenous capability for the production of marine gas turbine generators, which are considered essential power generation systems for modern naval combatants. These systems provide electricity for critical combat operations, including advanced weaponry and sensor suites.

The Ministry added that the initiative aligns with its broader objective of boosting defence indigenisation and reducing reliance on imports in strategic technology areas.
