100 acres to be allotted for NID in capital region.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu recently said that 100 acres would be allotted in the Capital region for the National Institute of Design (NID) that started functioning on the premises of the Acharya Nagarjuna University, in Guntur district.

Construction of permanent buildings for the NID had already been entrusted to the National Buildings Construction Corporation, he said.

Meanwhile, the State government has resolved to expedite land acquisition for the proposed National Investment and Manufacturing Zones (NIMZ) at Kalikiri in Chittoor and Valmikipuram in Prakasam district and expansion of Krishnapatnam port. It also laid renewed emphasis on promoting industries in areas falling under the Visakhapatnam - Chennai and Bangalore - Chennai industrial corridors. The future course of action pertaining to those projects was discussed in a meeting organised by the Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) recently.

Addressing the participants, Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Nirmala Sitharaman said inclusion of Anantapur, Kadapa and Kurnool in NIMZ would mitigate the impact of drought by facilitating speedy industrialization.
