Zaranj city gets new bus terminal

Zaranj: A bus terminal has been built in the southwestern Zaranj city, capital of the Nimroz province. The $56,000 terminal, funded by a local trader, was inaugurated.

Financier Haji Syed Ahmad told a simple inaugural ceremony the bus service in the province needed improvement and drivers as well as passengers were in a dire need of such a facility.

Built over 2.5 acres of land, the terminal has ticket booths, hotels and restaurants and bathrooms for men and women.

The investor said 25 transport agencies from Nimroz, Kabul, Kandahar, Herat and Farah had opened their offices at the site. Pervez Ahmad, a representative of the Yusufi Bus Agency, said dozens of the large 303 buses and cars departed from Nimroz from neighbouring provinces as well as Kabul on a daily basis. Syed Amin, head of the Nimroz Transport Department, said that local travel agencies and bus stops were earlier scattered across Zaranj and some were based in inaccessible and dangerous places. But the terminal provided a better place, he acknowledged.
