"Vietnam's First LNG Power Plant Set to Begin Commercial Operations in April, Delayed by Five Months"

Vietnam's first power plant solely powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG) is scheduled to commence commercial operations in April 2025, according to state media reports on Thursday. This timeline marks a five-month delay from the previously set target.

The Nhon Trach 3 plant, located in the southern province of Dong Nai, is expected to begin its test run in mid-October, as reported by Cong Thuong, a newspaper affiliated with the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

Additionally, the adjacent Nhon Trach 4 plant is anticipated to start commercial power generation by July 2025, which is two months later than initially planned.

Developed by PetroVietnam Power Corp., both plants have a combined capacity of 1.5 gigawatts (GW) and are part of a broader initiative that aims to establish a fleet of 13 LNG-fired plants with a total capacity of 22.4 GW by 2030.

PetroVietnam Power previously cited various challenges in the construction of the two plants, including complications related to power purchase agreements, land leases, and the establishment of transmission lines.
