Vedanta Board Approves ₹17,025 Crore Expansion for Aluminium and Power Units.

Vedanta Limited’s board has approved capital expenditure plans totaling ₹17,025 crore to expand its aluminium and power businesses. In a filing with stock exchanges, the company outlined major growth initiatives for its subsidiary Bharat Aluminium Company Limited (BALCO) and the Athena Chhattisgarh Power Plant Project.

The investment includes ₹11,816 crore earmarked for expanding BALCO’s smelter capacity by 435 KTPA, surpassing the previously approved increase of 414 KTPA, bringing the total capacity to 1,015 KTPA. Additionally, wire rod production will be boosted by 50 KTPA, and sow ingot capacity will double to 200 KTPA. Vedanta expects these expansions to contribute to economic gains starting in FY 2025-26.

These enhancements are part of Vedanta’s broader strategy to strengthen its aluminium production capabilities, aiming to meet increasing demand and maximize operational efficiency.
