Ultraviolette (UV), an electric vehicle platform and battery technology company, is set to expand its retail presence to six new cities in India—Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi, Mangaluru, Surat, and Coimbatore—by the end of this year. This expansion aligns with the company’s ambitious goal of reaching 25 cities by March 2025.
Currently, Ultraviolette operates in six cities, including Pune, Kochi, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Vizag, and Bengaluru. The company is strategically targeting regions with a strong demand for sports motorcycles, particularly in eastern cities and key state capitals. The new stores will feature a combination of company-owned and franchise-operated experience centers.
Co-founder and CEO Narayan Subramaniam described this expansion as a natural progression in the company's growth. “We have a compelling product developed over seven years of R&D, and we have perfected the sales and after-sales model that we aim to roll out across the country and globally,” he stated. To date, Ultraviolette has invested nearly ₹400 crore, with 60-70% allocated to R&D over the past seven years.
Earlier this month, the company also ventured into international markets by launching its UV Space Pod Experience Centre in Kathmandu, Nepal, and has secured distributors in Turkey, Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. “By November, we expect to formally begin our international expansion. Last year was focused on establishing processes and obtaining certifications to ensure our products and production meet international standards,” Subramaniam added.
Ultraviolette aims to achieve operational breakeven in the second half of next year, currently operating profitably at the gross margin level. The company has been delivering approximately 100 vehicles monthly and plans to ramp this number up significantly. “We should be delivering around a thousand vehicles in the coming weeks,” Subramaniam noted.
With the planned expansion into 12 additional cities, the company anticipates that its sales figures will multiply. “By the end of this financial year, we aim to be delivering around a thousand vehicles per month. For international markets, we are piloting in Europe this year, with a full expansion planned for 2025,” he concluded.
