TN govt to provide incentives for southern development

Chennai: Industry associations have welcomed the package of incentives announced by the State Government to encourage investments in southern districts and steps to encourage employment generation.

The Southern India Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SICCI) has welcomed the proposals outlined by the Minister for Local Administration, Mr M.K. Stalin, in the Assembly on Monday. These include the incentives to the manufacturing sector to invest in the Southern districts – Madurai, Theni, Dindigul, Sivagangai, Ramanathanpuram, Virudhunagar, Tirunelveli, Tuticorin, Kanyakumari – which would help the industrial climate and have a multiplier effect on development.

The Government has also rightly structured the employment-related assistance which would encourage job generation, SICCI said.

SICCI has also welcomed the proposal to set up a high level team to follow up on the investment proposals, single window facilitation for clearances of and creation of country specific industrial corridors.

The Confederation of Indian Industry – Tamil Nadu State Council has welcomed the focus on industrial development of the southern districts which would support the balanced economic development of the State. The priority in giving employment to local population in the new projects would also support the economic development of the region.

Setting up of industrial parks in Tuticorin, Thirumangalam, strengthening of infrastructure like deepening the draught at Tuticorin Port will attract investments and improve efficiency, CII said.
